Missed a couple of weeks due to a double whammy of being out of the office a lot and a little bit ill (nothing major). Back to normal now so will try to get back into the swing of weeknotes.

Fostering progress

Things feel a lot clearer now on this Discovery, or as clear as they can be. It might not really be a Discovery, but rather than obsess over what it is it feels like there’s a few things we can get on with. Namely seeing if we can help people get the answer to 2 questions:

How much do foster carers get paid?

Which type of fostering is right for me?

Exploring different options for this, and had lots of fun prototyping Smart Answers and financial calculators. Need to be prepared to throw these all in the bin if they don’t test well though.

Portals are for space travel

Over in Adult Social Care world, what some will insist on calling a portal (it’s a form) is on it’s way as an option to request support. Need to get my hands on the questions, draft up some content for it’s start page. Maybe push back on the questions depending on what they are. Watch this space (pun intended).

Forms step by step

Made a stab at some guidance for our design and patterns library on the steps to design a form. Need to share with people who know more than me, particularly devs. Seen some great example elsewhere of this type of thing, from other local councils and also national gov.

Distractions

Listening

Lots of Nick Cave as seeing him at the O2 this weekend.

Mates band Every Hell have a new EP called Vertebrate. Enjoyed their gig last week at The Black Heart in Camden. Heavy stuff but with a sax involved.

Watching

We caught up on RuPaul’s drag race UK. Down to all the really good queens now, no idea who will win.

The Cleaner with Greg Davies as a crime scene cleaner is lots of fun too.
