Weeknotes, Friday 31 January
About to pop off on holiday, so this week has been about trying to race through and get things to a decent point before disappearing.
Building a microsite
I had my wireframes and content ready, so as soon as I had a login for our LocalGov Drupal microsites platform I could get something built really quick, right?
No. Well, yes and no. I’ve got the bare bones together. The styling, spacing and fonts look weird and a lot of inaccessible colour combinations were appearing out of the box. Really this is probably just a bit of configuration that needs to happen on the back end. Met with our developer and he’s on it.
In a way this is fine as I can focus on functionality and sort out the visual side later. Won’t send it to the service owner yet though as it might spark ‘why does this look like sh*t!’ questions.
Pre-sprint workshop
Loved attending a pre-sprint workshop user researcher Claire put together. Quite a few folks from the Home Office attended.
We shared ideas on what a ‘code of conduct’ for an upcoming sprint we’re doing together could look like, how we could make things as inclusive and accessible as possible, and what voices we need in the room.
This will be shaped up and shared with participants for their thoughts ahead of the sprint.
One tricky point is Miro — we know it’s inaccessible for some, but security barriers mean we can’t use some obvious alternatives like share Google or Word docs. Hopefully we can figure out different ways of contributing that work for everyone.
Ready to publish Adult Social Care form
Productive meeting with the working group for a new adult social care form this week. The deadline for feedback on the page content was today, so hopefully that’s ready to go now.
Got a plan for updating the rest of the adult social care section, as we’ve got agreement this isn’t just about one page but lots of different journeys that need to be easier.
Distractions
Listening
The Bad Fire, Mogwai (album)
EUSEXUA, FKA Twigs (album)
Can’t Rush Greatness, Central Cee (album)
It’s Only A Love Song, C Duncan (album
Watching
Went to see the new Bob Dylan film ‘A complete unknown’. Mixed feelings, enjoyed hearing the songs but found Chalamet just made me laugh at points. Also they did not do Joan Baez justice!
